Petrovich was an old experienced CTO - he still remembered punch cards, and the number of programming languages that he knew was approximately equal to the number of languages that had sunk into oblivion of natural selection in the IT environment and were safely lost in Petrovich’s long-term memory.

And therefore, on the fifth floor, where the developers mostly sat, he immediately noticed a strange person. The guy was dressed too neatly. No logger beard was observed. Not a t-shirt with a print that should mean something and that only the owner understands. In general, not an admin or Devops engineer at all. The eyes are normal, not red, there are no black circles beneath them, no tattoos, no piercings, not even a laptop under the armpit, which means that it’s not the developer.

Petrovich gently cornered him and asked:

- What is your name, Vasya?
- Serge.
- Tell me, Seryozha, what is “99 bottles of beer” and Fibonacci numbers?
- What?
- "Hello, world" is what?
- Hello world! - shone Seryozha-Vasya.
“I see,” said Petrovich and dragged Seryozha to the guard.

There in the office he solemnly handed a colleague a game.

- Here. I caught the spy. Production espionage as it is. On the fifth floor I wandered, versed in programming, like Volochkova in style and etiquette.

The security guard waved his hand tiredly:

- Petrovich, let him go. Ours is this. IT specialist. Scrum master is called. Has been working for a week now.
- One sprint, - Serezha squeaked.

Petrovich thought sadly about the times of punch cards.

In a crisis that hit the world quite unexpectedly due to a bat, relic lizard and gluttonous Chinese, almost all industries felt a powerful economic blow and reacted as to how could - layoffs, indefinite leave, salary cuts. And only the IT-sphere not only resisted, but even showed development. What is the example of Zoom alone?

But in order to be an IT specialist and get quite high salaries in the market, even in times of crisis, it is necessary to overcome a number of thresholds - everyone from the street could not just get and become an IT specialist. Earlier.

Times are changing. “To glue the model in the club” is also not at all what we remember from the time of Murzilka, Dear Leonid Ilyich and Well, wait a moment.

In IT-teams, especially cross-functional, there are IT-professions that may be in no way related to code, console or process automation.

  • scrum master;
  • testers;
  • analytics;
  • designers;
  • agile coaches.

I think you can still list and list. These people are not engineers. They do not have a technical education, but, on the contrary, humanitarian is preferred. For them, nothing means "root of minus one" and "division by zero." But they are undoubtedly useful. In the production IT-process, the excess does not last long. Occam's razor “Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem” is particularly effective in the IT field.

And now many people have faced the choice of a future profession, or a change of profession, or addition to an existing profession - because a world that is too fast changing is extremely indifferent and even harsh to those who persistently repeat old scenarios and do not want to admit that as before will be gone.

The usual hierarchical management systems and clumsy tyrannosaurus corporations are being replaced by flexible methodologies, micro-teams and micro-companies, Agile and Scrum. The last two terms are controversial - someone thinks that Agile transformation should take place here and now, someone thinks that this is just a fad and will end with Yesenin’s “Everything will pass like smoke from white apple trees.”

Just look at the popular HH website to see strong demand for scrum masters.
Only across Moscow in the last month 48 vacancies - given the crisis, self-isolation and other nishtyaks of the pandemic. And the salaries of 100,000-150,000 rubles are not something fabulous. There are more generous proposals, but there is already a combination of the scrum-master and the project architect - and this is a completely different level of preparation and understanding of the processes, and where engineering experience is required.

Throughout Russia, demand is only growing (over the past month on the HH website 93 vacancies) and the highest salary fork is not even in Moscow, as you might think, but in Novosibirsk - 100,000-160,000 rubles.

One of the highest and most difficult thresholds for getting into the IT industry has become an optional obstacle - you may not know the higher mathematics, you won’t write even one line of working code, but you will have a place in the IT team. And you will be a useful participant in the process. Sometimes solving problems: conflicts between employees or conflicts with management, professional burnout, adequate and feasible planning, simplification and acceleration of working meetings, cooperation between different departments and divisions - which experienced operators and developers can hardly cope with. And much of which sometimes was the headache of the same CTO or team lead.

On July 9, there will be a free Scrum seminar from practitioners “SCRUM master profession” . The course is for those who want to feel comfortable in Agile teams, to influence the life of the team and the company as a whole.

In the first free lesson, teachers will draw up a personal development plan as a scrum master. They will take apart the balance wheel so that each participant determines their leading and lagging skills and draws up a personal development plan, many of which will be implemented during the course.

At the same time, skeptics at the webinar, whose terms “Agile” and “Scrum” do not cause any positive emotions, can see in person how it works, what it gives and how much it applies to their activities.

P.S. And Petrovich and Sergei eventually found a common language. Petrovich appreciated that the developers no longer run to him when someone in the team stepped on someone's professional callus. Yes, and the tasks are carried out vigorously and on time - you do not have to customize or look menacingly with the eyes of the commander of the 1st Cavalry Army.
